69/25 Minutes of the last meeting
The Minutes of the meeting held on 20 May 2025 were approved as a correct record and signed by the Chair.
70/25 Public participation
Two members of the public were present following up on the concerns raised regarding the industrial area on Robinettes Lane. They reported that there have been no further fires or incidents of spraying insecticide since their attendance, raising concerns, at the last meeting.
There is still a large amount of lorries going to and from the site, these have to mount the pavements to gain entry to the site, which is a serious safety issue.
Broxtowe Borough Councillors reported that Contact Services UK own the land and Mabeys still operate from there, having recently upgraded their offices. This permission was granted in 2022.
The site has historic permissions and the Borough Council do check up on the site.
It is very worrying that the large lorries using the site mount the pavement and it was suggested that the residents of Robinettes Lane contact the County Council giving vehicle registrations which can then be checked. The Parish Council will write to the County Council raising these concerns.
Write to NCC with the concerns regarding lorries mounting the pavements
71/25 Police report
No report.
72/25 County Councillor’s report
No report.
73/25 Borough Councillor’s report
It was reported that two trees have been cut down on the green on the corner of Coronation Road/Church Lane. Why have these trees been cut down? Councillor Pringle will look into this but it is a County Council responsibility not a Borough Council one.
Greenspaces will also be contacted.
Cllr Pringle to look into this and Greenspaces will also be contacted
Councillor Mrs Ball reported that they have visited residents on The Glebe who are not happy with noise, language, music etc coming from the building site. This is starting at around 7am in the morning. Councillor Pringle reported this to Avant and had an immediate response that something would be done. There are also residents complaining about the lack of privacy due to how close the new houses are to their properties.
Standing Orders commenced at 8.00pm
74/25 Items for discussion
a) Church matters
Nothing to report.
b) Footpaths and pavements
We have been informed that the pavement on Church Lane, going up the hill from Millennium Park is not bad enough to repair but will be cleared of vegetation and swept.
The overgrown hedges on Awsworth Lane, just down from Trinity Farm, will be cut back.
The pavement which is badly damaged opposite the church has been repaired.
c) Roads/Traffic/Bikers
It was reported that quite a few heavy lorries are coming through the village and mount the pavements and verges – these lorries also force cars onto the pavements and verges. Need to obtain the registration numbers/company names/time of day etc as evidence.
There is a flaw in the law because as long as the lorries are travelling to the industrial site on Robinettes Lane, or elsewhere in the Parish, it does not matter how long, tall or heavy the vehicle is they can have access. The road is not suitable but they are not breaking the law apart from mounting the pavements.
We need to try to get someone interested at government level and it was suggested that the local MP, Juliet Campbell, be contacted regarding this problem.
Contact MP
It was suggested that wooden stumps be installed on the verges but the County Council will no longer put the posts in due to the costs.
It was suggested that a couple of volunteers stand on the corners and take details of large lorries so that checks can be made as to whether they are actually going to/from Robinettes Lane or another address in the Parish, or just cutting through.
d) RCAN
Councillor Harrison reported that the usual updates for church halls have been passed on to Marilyn Reed.
There is also a funding opportunity being offered by the Police and Crime Commissioner to create a safer Nottinghamshire. The closing date for applications is 15 July.
e) CPRE
Nothing to report.
f) Defibrillators
The question was raised as to having the crests on the phone box painted in gold – now that the phone box has been painted this would finish it off nicely.
g) Floral displays
The planters look lovely – thanks were given to Councillors Harrison and Mrs Harrison for their work on these.
Councillor Mrs Ball told the meeting that she had attended the Open Gardens and thought everything looked fantastic.
h) Trees and The Woodland Trust
Nothing to report. Keep on Agenda for next month.
75/25 Correspondence
Residents on Awsworth Lane have had a planning notification about the Bennerley site. There is a public meeting on 30 June 2025 in Awsworth Village Hall from 4pm to 7.30pm.
This is about the proposed development of the ex-Bennerley screening site. The proposals are horrendous – huge storage sheds spanning from the Viaduct to the A610, with access from the island at the bottom of Awsworth. The website to make comments is www.bennerleyemployment.co.uk.
Councillor Mrs Gilbert will reply to the resident with information about the public meeting.
Cllr Mrs Gilbert to rely to resident
A donation from the Parish Council towards the Sensory Garden, in memory of the young boy who recently passed away, would be gratefully received. There has been a set back because the safety surfacing has doubled in price.
The plans are to re-instate the greenhouse with a small garden and seating area for the children to enjoy peace and quiet away from the playground.
It was proposed, seconded and all were in favour that the original donation of £200 given to the family, which has not been used, be put towards the sensory garden. This donation will be made next month.
76/25 Planning applications
Hanging baskets have been placed on a couple of lamp posts in the village. These are a very nice gesture, we do not know who has done this but there are concerns regarding safety. The lamp posts need stress testing by the County Council to make sure they are safe. If these tests are ok we are very happy for the hanging baskets to stay in place, if deemed unsafe by stress tests the County Council will remove them.
Contact the County Council re stress tests
