20/26 Borough Councillor’s report

Councillor Pringle reported that he had seen Martyn Pask’s response to Councillor Mrs Gilbert regarding the complaints from residents, of the dirt on Newtons Lane.  Martyn has confirmed that the road is being swept but this does not seem to be often enough as there are large chunks of mud on the road from the building site.  It was reported that there is a new Site Manager.  The opening of the new access road from the bypass is now completed and Avant are awaiting the go-ahead from Highways for it to be officially opened.

It was reported that cars are speeding along Newtons Lane, going to and from the housing estate.  It was suggested that we apply for traffic calming due to the amount and speed of traffic now using the road.

Apply for traffic calming

Councillor Ms Hopkin reported that large lorries are coming through Awsworth again.

The Gardeners is up for sale again for £500,000 with planning permission for some houses to be built.

Standing Orders commenced at 7.50pm

21/26 Items for discussion

a) Church matters

Update on the cleaning of the War Memorials – the War Memorials Trust have advised caution as overcleaning can cause more damage. Jason Mordan from the County Council is in agreement with them and recommended Mark Stafford, who we have already contacted and received a quote from of £1,650 ex VAT.  Jason has also been in touch with the conservation officer and someone from Southwell diocese who may be able to come and look at the memorials with Janson, this meeting will take place on Monday 2nd March at 1.30pm. Councillors Mrs Gilbert, Ms Hopkin and Mrs Wheatley will attend.

Following the request to the Borough Council for the yew trees in the Churchyard to be trimmed back, as they are encroaching the war memorial, a response has been received from the new manager, Dan Reynolds.  He has only been in the job for a few weeks and is unfamiliar with the terms of the Borough Council’s maintenance upkeep of the churchyard but he will look into it and get back to us. Councillor Mrs Gilbert will chase this up.

b) Footpaths and Pavements

There has been no response from the County Council regarding the state of the verges on Church Lane but Emma Georgiou at the Borough Council has passed this on to Alex Herod who has confirmed that the verges will be looked at in the Spring.  There has been no response regarding the request to put bollards on the verges to stop vehicles being driven over them and allow the ground to settle.  The bollards would possibly only be need to be a temporary measure.

It was reported that Robinettes Lane pavements have still not been cleared, photos will be taken and sent to the Borough Council.

It was reported that Robinettes Lane pavements have still not been cleared, photos will be taken and sent to the Borough Council.
No response regarding the pavements on Church Lane being cleaned, this is possibly due to the weather.  We will approach the Borough Council again in the Spring and push for a date when to expect the work to be carried out.
The white lining to guide vehicles round the narrow bends has not been done either, this could also be due to the weather as it is thought that the temperature needs to be above 10 degrees C before this work can be carried out successfully.

Questions were asked about why the trees on the canal bank next to Dead Lane had be cut down. We know that Broxtowe Borough Council have received some grants to look after the canal to benefit the wildlife, but we want to know why these trees were felled.

Question why the trees were felled

c) Roads/Traffic/Bikers

It was reported that the occasional illegal biker has come through paths in the Parish. This will no doubt increase once the weather gets better.

d) RCAN

Councillor Harrison reported that the annual Networking Event for Nottinghamshire’s Community Hall representatives will be held in Cotgrave on Wednesday 18th March.  This information has been passed on to Marilyn Reed.
There is an invitation to attend the Community Energy Capacity Building Workshop, which will be an online session on Wednesday 25th February from 2pm-4.30pm.
There is a Dementia Friends information session for village and community hall representatives on Thursday 19th February from 2pm-2.30pm.  This information has been passed to Marilyn Reed.
An online session on Counter Terrorism Security for village and community hall representatives has been arranged for Tuesday 14th April from 10am to 11am.  The information has been passed on to Marilyn Reed.

e) CPRE

Councillor Ms Hopkin reported that she has notified the planning representatives of the big development near to the viaduct.

f) Village Signs

At the extra meeting held on Wednesday 4th February it was reported that Awsworth Parish Council are applying for a grant for two new village signs and could get either 25% or 50% towards the new signs.  The worst case scenario is that we pay 50% of the total cost of the two signs at £1,208.59 and one side will say Cossall and the other Awsworth. Waiting to hear from Awsworth.

We have not committed anything towards erecting the signs as it is hoped that Avant will cover these costs.

A photograph of the church in a circle has been sent across to Awsworth Parish Council to be put on our side of each sign, if this cannot be done then we are happy to have the speed limit.

g) Defibrillators

A re-furbished defibrillator has been purchased to replace the one in the telephone box as the battery has been discontinued.  A new battery and pads are included with the re-furbished unit.  This will be fitted and the defibrillator at Trinity Farm serviced on 24th February.

h) Spring newsletter

Ideas are needed for the next newsletter. Cossall Community Chest have got their next meeting in March and are looking at new ideas for a fair and gardens event.  As there is at least one child from Cossall in each class at Awsworth Primary School it would be nice to involve the children of the parish in something. Hopefully they will put forward ideas which can be published in the Newsletter.

Gurjit Mahal has also been approached with regards to having photographs taken of the work being carried out on the Almshouses.

We could include a spring recipe and mention the interview about Trinity Farm which was on Radio 4.

Children’s Corner can be included if there is space and a suggestion was put forward about having a crossword for adults.  Also a nature corner was suggested.

War Memorial cleaning and church floodlights being updated to LED could also be included.

All ideas will be discussed at the next meeting.

22/26 Correspondence

There was no correspondence.

23/26 Planning applications

There is a planning application for Moss Cottage but it was not felt that this will

affect anyone close-by untowardly.
