The Parish Council is the tier of Local Government closest to the people. The next tier of Government for Cossall is the Broxtowe Borough Council and the final tier is the Nottinghamshire County Council.

It is our intention to enable more residents to play an active role in the community, participate in more activities, attend Parish Council Meetings, take advantage of our refurbished hall, The Old School Room, and thoroughly enjoy living in Cossall.

History of Cossall

Photo of St Catherine's Church, Cossall

Cossall is a civil parish 1 mile east of Ilkeston in Nottinghamshire. It is mentioned in the Doomsday Book where it is referred to as Cotshale.

It is home to the disused coal-carrying canal, St Catherine’s church, Willoughby Almshouses and the former colliery.

Conservation

The conservation area of Cossall Parish was originally designated in 1972 to conserve the character of the area with its views over the Erewash valley, the Nottingham canal and towards Kimberley and Strelley.
